The Ford Smoothie isn’t just some clever play on words, like the name of a cylinder-shaped Ford vehicle that you drive. It’s a real smoothie, drinkable and delicious, developed by the Ford Motor Company. Now, you’re probably asking, “So… what is the Ford Smoothie? And why would they make it?” We thought you’d never ask!
“Over the last decade, we’ve been building Ford trucks and SUVs with plant-based materials. That means you can drive a Ford, but you can also drink some of the stuff that goes into a Ford.
To prove it, we took some of the delicious plant-based materials we use to build Ford vehicles, bottled them, and made it available to you as a healthy, delicious smoothie.”
Ford has a long history of values that are aligned with sustainable environmental practices. We use recycled and renewable materials throughout the manufacturing process to produce cars, trucks, and SUVs with a reduced ecological imprint. Included among our list of renewable materials are several plant-based ingredients that we use for a variety of purposes - and yes, they just happen to be nutritious ingredients that can be used to build a smoothie, too!
Ingredient |
Car Part |
Smoothie |
Coconut |
Coconut fibres are used in our trunk mats. |
The Ford Smoothie recipe uses coconut water for electrolytes and sweetness. |
Soy |
Every Ford vehicle built in North America uses soy foam in the seats. |
Cooked, non-GMO soybeans are used in the recipe to add creaminess and protein. |
Rice |
Rice hulls are used in our vehicle electrical systems. |
Cooked brown rice is added to the recipe for whole-grain energy. |
Orange |
Ford engineers are currently experimenting with orange peels for future use in Ford vehicles! Would it be called the “Mach-C?!” |
Orange juice is a natural choice for any smoothie, as it is high in vitamins A and C and adds tangy acidity. |
Agave |
Agave fibre is another material Ford engineers are currently experimenting with for future vehicles. |
Agave syrup is added to the recipe for subtle sweetness. |
Algae |
Ford is looking into harnessing the power of algae in the future. |
For a major nutritional boost, the Ford Smoothie contains Blue Majik Algae. |
Prickly Pear |
We expect prickly pear to be used in future Ford vehicle production, and testing is already underway. |
This delicious fruit adds just the right amount of sweetness, acid, and an extra hit of vitamins. |
